A notable event at Clinton Raceway

The HPIBet Legends Trot at Clinton Raceway was a notable event that brought together Hall of Fame harness drivers for a charitable cause.

Eight distinguished drivers from the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame competed in the $10,000 race. Participants included Randy Waples, Wally Hennessey, Doug Brown, Steve Condren, Chris Christoforou, Sylvain Filion, Paul MacDonell, and Carl Jamieson.

Randy Waples, in his first pari-mutuel drive in nearly two years, guided Heavy Dude E to victory. The hometown favourite won the race, with Heavy Dude E holding off Cool Clifford and Charmbro Prince to secure the win in 2:01.1.

The event was part of Clinton Raceway's Legends Day, which raised over $61,000 for the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation this year. Since its inception in 2001, the event has raised a total of $391,000 for charitable causes.

The event drew a large, enthusiastic crowd, with over $100,000 wagered on the races throughout the day.

The day included a BBQ that sold 900 tickets and a silent auction where Sylvain Filion's donated helmet raised $500 for the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

The event also served as a reunion for past participants and featured guests, including notable figures like John Campbell, Trevor Ritchie, Dave Wall, Ron Waples, and Bill O'Donnell. Collectively, these drivers have impressive statistics of 92,450 winning drives and purse earnings totalling $1.4 billion.

Additionally, the race card featured elimination rounds for the $50,000 Kin Pace Final, with winners including Wicked Leader, Greatest Pleasure, and How Much.

Overall, the HPIBet Legends Trot and Legends Day at Clinton Raceway celebrated harness racing excellence while contributing significantly to community fundraising efforts.
