Adare Manor, who surpassed $2 million in career earnings with her third consecutive victory last month, has officially retired from racing and will be offered for sale at the Fasig-Tipton auction in Kentucky this November.
Trainer Bob Baffert confirmed the retirement on Thursday morning, following a report by Thoroughbred Daily News on Wednesday afternoon. Baffert emphasised that Adare Manor is retiring in good health, but the timing of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Nov. 2 may be too soon for her to be fully prepared.
Initially, Adare Manor was listed as a possible contender for the Zenyatta Stakes (G2) this Sunday at Santa Anita, a race she won last year. However, plans shifted following her recent scratch from the Pacific Classic (G1) after she tied up two days before the race, despite being the morning-line favourite.
The 5-year-old mare by Uncle Mo, owned by Michael Lund Petersen, has been one of the standout older female racehorses in North America. She captured the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 3, improving her career record to 18 starts, 10 wins, 5 seconds, and earnings of $2,096,600. Adare Manor secured eight graded stakes victories, including back-to-back wins in the Clement L. Hirsch (2023 and 2024) and the 2024 Apple Blossom Handicap.
Adare Manor was originally purchased for $375,000 as a 2-year-old at the 2021 Ocala Breeders' Sale.
