DUNDAS, Ontario Sunday night (May 12) at Flamboro Downs harness racing track, the American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) presented another donation, this time for the Ronald McDonald House.
While travelling with fellow club members for the Billings Drivers Series in Canada, AHDC President Anthony Verruso gave a $1,000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House, an organisation with hundreds of chapters worldwide that provides housing and meals to families of hospitalised children. After Sunday night's race at Flamboro Downs, Verruso was accompanied by Billings Series and AHDC members to present the check.
“Supporting charities like Ronald McDonald House is one of the fun things about being an amateur driver,” Anthony Verruso noted. “We get to enjoy all of the thrills of racing and then get to help people in need at the same time.”
Being an amateur harness racing drivers organisation, the AHDC reserves a portion of the purses earned by its drivers for charity purposes. The AHDC has given thousands of dollars to a variety of charities in 2023, including cancer research, supporting those facing homelessness, and post-race horse aftercare.
