Charlottetown, Pennsylvania Blood Money (Sweet Lou) won the Saturday evening (May 11) Preferred at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, completing a driving treble for Marc Campbell when the harness racing stallion defeated stablemate and clear favourite Twin B Tuffenuff.
Spectrum Seelster, piloted by David Dowling, took the lead in the $3,600 feature in 28.3 and was followed by a half in 57.4. In the early going, the Ron Matheson-trained tandem of Blood Money (Campbell) and Twin B Tuffenuff (Gilles Barrieau) patiently trailed in third and fourth, respectively, until Campbell made the correct move at the three-quarters mark of 1:26.4. Owner Dr. Mitchell Downey of Saint John, New Brunswick, saw his first-over Blood Money, at 4-1 odds, take the lead in the stretch and hold off the strongly favoured second-over Twin B Tuffenuff to win in 1:55.1. Third place went to Spectrum Seelster.
Earlier on the card, Campbell triumphed with the Pendleton Rodeo, trained by Brent Campbell (1:55.1) in the fourth race, and with JK Express (1:56.2), trained by Jared Perrot in the seventh.
Race 9 saw Selkirk Echo (Barrieau) win in 1:55.3, giving trainer Matheson two wins.
Together, driver Adam Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie won both Race 10 (1:57.2) with Merigo Magic and Race 11 (1:57.1) with Mr. Kelly.
First Glance (1:56) and Usurper (1:59.2), both driven by Dowling, brought trainer Jennifer Doyle two victories.
Early in the program, the three-year-old colt Freemans Legacy (Jacob Sweet) showed promise, winning in 1:57.2 with a final quarter time of 27 flat. At the 2022 Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale, owner MacKenzie Arsenault of Alberton paid a frugal $3,500 for the Pang Shui – Camco Terra colt.
At Red Shores Charlottetown, live racing continues on Thursday, May 16, starting at 6:00 p.m.
