Trainer Bob Baffert said on Wednesday morning that Mr Fisk (Arrogate)'s right front foreleg's condylar fracture had been successfully repaired during surgery.
Mr Fisk defeated stablemate Reincarnate (Good Magic) to win the GII Hollywood Gold Cup on Monday, although his jockey Kazushi Kamura said that he felt "off" during the gallop-out. X-rays later demonstrated the fracture.
Dr. Ryan Carpenter operated at the Southern California Equine Foundation Hospital on the backside of Santa Anita to implant two screws into the leg.
“He had his surgery, and it went well, so now we just have to wait four months and reassess how it heals,” said Baffert. “He looks good, he's back in the stall, and he looks bright.”
Baffert stated he would remain at his barn for the time being. “He'll stay with me. I like to keep him for a month at least.”
After four months, Carpenter will get another X-ray to determine his prognosis, according to Baffert.
