Campbell has left WRDC

Brandon Campbell has informed Standardbred Canada that he will be withdrawing from the Western Regional Driving Championship (WRDC) as of right now because of an injury.

He will be succeeded as the next harness racing driver by Kelly Hoerdt.

Consequently, the WRDC, scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at Century Downs Racetrack & Casino in Rocky View, Alberta, has confirmed the following field of eight drivers, Phil Giesbrecht, Mike Hennessy, Kelly Hoerdt, David Hudon, David Kelly, Scott Knight, Blake Piwniuk, Nathan Sobey.

Points will be awarded to drivers according to where they finish. The 2024 National Driving Championship, scheduled for Friday, July 5 at Hippodrome 3R in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, will see the top two finishers from the eight-race championship move on. The two winners from each of the other three regional championships—Ontario, Quebec/Eastern Ontario, and Atlantic—will join them.

The first harness race on the WRDC program is scheduled to post at 12:45 p.m. (MDT)/2:45 p.m. (EDT), with Race 4 hosting the inaugural WRDC race. The races that will feature the WRDC are Races 4 through 11.
