Charge It, a multiple graded stakes winner from Whisper Hill Farm, has officially retired from racing and will begin his stud career at Gainesway next season. The son of Tapit out of the Indian Charlie mare I'll Take Charge, Charge It first gained attention with a 'TDN Rising Star' maiden win before finishing second in the prestigious 2022 GI Florida Derby. He made headlines with a remarkable 23-length victory in the GIII Dwyer Stakes and returned as a 4-year-old to claim the GII Suburban Stakes.
"To win any graded race by 23 lengths, like Charge It did in the Dwyer, signifies an incredibly talented horse. His capabilities were clearly at the Grade I level," said trainer Todd Pletcher. Charge It boasts Beyer Speed Figures of 100 or higher on four occasions, wrapping up his career with four wins and earnings totalling $887,270.
A homebred for Mandy Pope's Whisper Hill Farm, Charge It's pedigree is notable, with his second dam being the renowned broodmare of the year, Take Charge Lady (Dehere). This lineage makes his dam a half-sister to champion Will Take Charge (Unbridled's Song) and Grade I winner Take Charge Indy (A.P. Indy), as well as the dam of champion Take Charge Brandi (Giant's Causeway) and multiple Grade I winner Omaha Beach (War Front).
"Charge It is an extraordinary-looking horse with undeniable brilliance," stated Gainesway general manager Brian Graves. "His pedigree ranks among the elite available to breeders."
Charge It is now available for inspection at Gainesway, with details regarding his stud fee to be announced in due course.
