Convoy Hall Enjoys Strong Start to 2024 Campaign

Convoy Hall has made a solid start to his 2024 campaign, securing the $18,000 conditioned trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, March 14. The sophomore Muscle Mass-Constance Hall gelding, unraced as a juvenile, now boasts a perfect three-for-three record in his fledgling season, accumulating earnings of $26,000.

Under the guidance of driver Sylvain Filion, the Robert McIntosh-trained gelding led from start to finish. Departing from the third post position, Convoy Hall swiftly took the lead, clocking fractions of :27, :57.2, and 1:27.1. Filion and Convoy Hall effortlessly extended their lead, clinching victory by five lengths in 1:55.4. Bbc Sportsboy (driven by Tyler Borth) secured second place, with Ultra Lady S (piloted by Dagfin Henriksen) finishing third.

Owned by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., Douglas John McIntosh, Randy Liepa, and Beverley Snobelen, Convoy Hall was acquired as a yearling for $52,000 at the Lexington Select Sale.

Regarding the purchase, McIntosh explained,

“I do not frequently buy horses from sales due to having my own breeding operation. However, my brother attended the Lexington sale and expressed interest in acquiring a horse for us. Upon seeing this colt's pedigree, I gave the go-ahead.”

Reflecting on Convoy Hall's pedigree, McIntosh shared, “I previously trained his dam, Constance Hall, who amassed over $200,000 in winnings during her career. Additionally, I procured two mares from the same lineage, both of which excelled on the racetrack. Thus, I have enjoyed considerable success with this bloodline.”

Considering Convoy Hall's potential, McIntosh opted to give the gelding time to mature, delaying his racing debut until the 2024 season. After a triumphant first race in 1:55.3 (with a final quarter of :27.4), Convoy Hall continued his winning streak with a six-length victory in 1:56.2 before the recent five-length triumph in 1:55.4.

As the heavily favoured contender, Convoy Hall delivered a winning payout of $2.40 to his supporters.
