After being selected to ride Society Man at Churchill Downs on Saturday, Frankie Dettori's dream of making his second Kentucky Derby start in his legendary career has finally come true.
Agent Ron Anderson verified a report from Daily Racing Form stating that Dettori will be the rider for trainer Danny Gargan on the colt named Good Magic.
The only other Kentucky Derby mount Dettori has ever had was when he placed sixth aboard China Visit in 2000. The three-time champion from the United Kingdom had intended to retire last year, but he announced in the fall that he would be relocating to Southern California.
Subsequently, he and Inspiral won the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. This year, he has won five additional graded stakes races, the most recent being the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley when he and Beaute Cachee secured his first-ever graded victory at Keeneland.
Community Man's second-place finish in the Wood Memorial (G2) qualified him for the Kentucky Derby. He had not started since breaking his maiden in March, until that day.
