El Toro Loco made headlines at the Western Fair on Wednesday evening (March 13) by clinching the Preferred Handicap Trot in 1:56, matching the older trotting geldings' record. The previous record, jointly held by Brawn Seelster (2008) and Platoon Seelster (2016), was equalled by El Toro Loco.
Under the ownership of No One Knows Us Stable and guided by trainer Steve Bossence, El Toro Loco, a recent addition, took the lead early in the race, led by jockey Garret Rooney. The pace was relentless, with split times of :28.1, :57.3, and 1:26.4, leaving six other contenders trailing behind. El Toro Loco sealed his victory with a swift :29.1 finish.
In a surprise twist, Insanity claimed the second spot, followed by Bucktober in third. El Toro Loco, sired by Walner-Southwind Cabaret, significantly boosted his earnings to $194,103 with his first win of the season and his 11th career victory out of 52 appearances. The five-year-old gelding, a favourite among bettors, rewarded them with a $3.80 payout for the win.
