Kingswood Farm, helmed by Roderick Wachman, is preparing to showcase a high-quality albeit limited selection at the Keeneland September Sale, with two entries in Book 1 known for their pedigree and promise.
The standout offering, Hip 30, is a full sister to the accomplished racehorse Slow Down Andy, a millionaire who triumphed in several graded races across dirt and turf, including the prestigious 2023 Awesome Again Stakes (G1). This dark bay or brown filly is by the notable sire Nyquist and is out of the Square Eddie mare Edwina E. Alongside her successful sibling, she also shares lineage with stakes winner Team Merchants. Wachman emphasizes her potential, suggesting she could excel as a two-turn filly.
Wachman notes that the mare Edwina E is producing well, having already given birth to a quality colt this year. Nyquist, the sire, continues to shine in both racing and breeding, earning recognition with multiple graded stakes winners in 2024, including undefeated juvenile fillies who recently won prestigious races.
The second entry, Hip 294, is a striking colt by Street Sense and comes from a partnership involving Wachman, Brian Kahn, and River Oak Farm. He is a product of the stakes-placed Bernardini mare What a Fox, and notably, his half-sibling is also a Nyquist filly. Wachman praises Hip 294's athleticism and looks, calling him a "fast-looking Street Sense" and expressing confidence in his potential.
Although Wachman's previous consignment in 2020 was limited, it yielded impressive results with three black-type performers among six horses. His knack for identifying quality horses is evidenced by his previous success in selecting horses that may not be the largest but possess the right balance and craftsmanship.
Wachman remains optimistic about adding to his track record of selling graded stakes performers, and with the calibre of horses he's bringing to the Keeneland September Sale, he may very well achieve that goal.
