A recent report suggested that jockey Frankie Dettori is embroiled in a tax dispute with British authorities, which has drawn significant attention. According to Jonathan Harding of Racing Post, a court ruling on Monday overturned the decision to allow Dettori to remain anonymous in his case with His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Dettori, who asserts that he has fully settled his tax obligations, sought anonymity during the proceedings.
Following the lifting of his anonymity, Dettori released a statement explaining that several years prior, he had engaged professional tax advisors to manage his family's financial matters. He stated that a structure was established, which he claims was approved by HMRC. However, he revealed that HMRC is now contesting that arrangement, and he has since parted ways with his previous advisors.
Dettori mentioned that his new team is diligently working to resolve his complications. They are collaborating closely with HMRC to expedite the resolution of the issue. Although he had initially planned to retire after the 2023 Breeders' Cup, Dettori has since continued racing in the United States, amassing 79 victories from 444 starts in North America in 2024, including notable wins in prestigious races like the Jenny Wiley and the Santa Anita Handicap.
