Horseshoe Indianapolis's Stakes-Laden Program Is Wiped Off By Rain

The weather that moved through the area on Wednesday forced the cancellation of live racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

“Out of concern for the safety of our equine and human athletes the races for Wednesday, May 15, have been cancelled,” Horseshoe Indianapolis Vice President and General Manager Eric Halstrom remarked on the track's X feed.

The racecourse's production manager and on-air racing analyst, Rachel McLaughlin, shared pictures of the extensive water on and around the racetrack on X.

Nine Thoroughbred races were scheduled for Wednesday, including the $150,000 Horseshoe Indianapolis H. for 3-year-old turf fillies, which is the first open stakes race of the 2024 meet, and the $150,000 Caesars H., which is the colts' equivalent and is carded for a mile on the grass. There were two more scheduled races: the $100,000 Sagamore Sired H. and the $100,000 Swifty Sired Fillies' H.

Marcus Hersh of Daily Racing Form stated that the two stakes that were sired by Indiana will return on May 22. It was time to decide how the Horseshoe Indianapolis Handicaps and Caesars would fare.
