Hugh Heff (Betterthancheddar), the leading harness racer in North America for seasonal wins, has successfully extended his unbeaten streak to 10. He secured victory in the second division of the Governor’s Cup first leg on Saturday, October 26, at Northside Downs.
Initially trailing in third while Kraken Seelster (Ardon Mofford) took an early lead, Hugh Heff mounted an impressive first-up challenge before reaching the half. Under the guidance of Randy Getto, the gelding steadily closed the gap and overpowered the front-runner in the stretch, winning by three-quarters of a length with a time of 1:57.2. Shir Gain (Rod Gillis) finished in third place.
With this win, Hugh Heff has now claimed 24 victories this season, a remarkable six wins ahead of any other horse in North America. Trained by Dana Getto, the four-year-old has remained unbeaten in his 10 starts since arriving at Northside Downs in August. To date, he has amassed 32 career wins and earnings of $104,666 from 72 starts. Randy Getto co-owns the horse with Susan Macsween and Wayne Hardy.
In the first division of the Governor’s Cup first leg, Eastcoast Invader (Rollwithitharry, Monica Sutherland) took the lead during the middle half and pulled away for an impressive three-length win. Q Ts Charlie (Jeremy Baker) finished strongly in second, while Runaway Mystery (Harold Leblanc) secured third place.
Eastcoast Invader, who is trained by Sutherland, now boasts a lifetime record of 23 wins in 120 races, alongside total earnings of $39,630. She is co-owned by Todd Sutherland.
Northside Downs will present its next race card on Saturday, November 2.
