On opening day at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, Chelski led the field all the way to the finish in one of the two features, assisting Jennifer Doyle, the top trainer in 2023, complete a triple training program.
Corey MacPherson, the driver, had the call on the 2:00.1 winning Doyle trainer, in the $3,250 featured fillies and mares pace. After taking a 32-second break in the second split (1:02.2), Chelski took the lead at the quarter in 1:30.2 and went on to win the third quarter in 1:32.1. In the last stanza, which had a witty :28 flat panel, Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) surged to second place, while Elm Grove Mistress (Damian MacLellan) finished third.
In Nova Scotia, Rollwithitharry-Safety Net's seven-year-old daughter is jointly owned by Jeffrey and Robert Skinner.
Additional Doyle winners were First Glance (MacPherson), clocking in at precisely 1:56.2, and Spectrum Seelster (Dowling), who won the $3,500 co-feature (below) in 1:56.2.
Driver Marc Campbell made a hat trick in the evening, winning with Imalookertoo (1:56) for trainer Jeff Holmes, Pendleton Rodeo (1:58.4) from his own barn and St Charles Fireball (2:00.4) for trainer Vaughan Doyle.
Red Shores Charlottetown will continue to host live harness racing on Thursday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m.
