Jimmy Freight will have a new career

The former Ontario stallion and O’Brien Award-winning pacer, Jimmy Freight, is heading to a new home. Now based at Faith Valley Ranch, Jimmy Freight will begin his stud career in Alberta.

Jimmy Freight had an impressive racing career, amassing over $1.9 million in earnings and achieving a lifetime best of 1:48s at age seven by winning the $100,000 Mohawk Gold Cup—a title he claimed twice, in 2019 and 2022. The nine-year-old pacer remains Sportswriter's richest and co-fastest son and is out of the Western Ideal mare, Allamerican Summer.

As a two- and three-year-old, Jimmy Freight was a dominant force in the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Gold division. He claimed the $225,000 OSS Super Final at three and a division of the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes. As a sophomore, he went undefeated in five OSS races and was honoured with the O’Brien Award as Canada’s Three-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year.

In addition to his Mohawk Gold Cup victories, Jimmy Freight’s aged campaign saw him win the 2019 Dayton Pacing Derby and the 2022 Camluck Classic. Throughout 85 lifetime starts, he compiled an impressive record of 37 wins, 18 seconds, and 14 thirds.

Jimmy Freight’s first crop of foals debuted in 2023, with 15 of his 24 offspring starting on the track. Two of these progeny earned over $100,000, including Resilience p,3, 1:50.2s ($167,736), an OSS Gold winner and the $100,000 Jimmy Freight Stakes winner.

“We were so honoured that Adriano Sorella allowed us to purchase this incredibly talented stallion and add another exceptional sire to Alberta’s breeding industry,” said a statement from the farm in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. “We are excited to see what the future holds for Alberta when his foals start hitting the ground.”
