Mucho Macho Man, Breeders’ Cup Classic Winner, retires to Ontario

The fans of the racing star Ontario stallion, Mucho Macho Man, had a lot to be proud of as the stallion’s son Real Macho gained a gobsmacking win in a three-year-old allowance Gulfstream Park race this Saturday. Real Macho (25-to-1), overtook a favourite Born Noble in a one mile race at 1:37.40 for a 87 Beyer Speed Figure.

The rapidly advancing Real Macho, now with two wins for his four starts, is co-owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, which presented Mucho Macho Man, champion of the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita. Mucho Macho Man had been stationed in Kentucky where he sired Grade 1 winner Mucho Gusto, winner of Pegasus World Cup and Grade 1 victorious turfer Mucho Unusual among his 10 black-type winners from his first eight crops.

The 16-year-old stallion will pass the 2024 season at Adena Springs North in Aurora, ON. Mucho Macho Man’s manager Tony Gattelaro described the farm as “offering a discount to multiple mares and returning Adena clients.”

A graded stakes prizewinner from ages three through five, Mucho Macho Man held the second place in the Grade 2 Remsen and Nashua stakes race as a colt. At three he was third in the Kentucky Derby, overran by Animal Kingdom after snatching the prize at the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Mucho Macho Man earned his victory at the Suburban and Gulfstream Park Handicaps (both G2) and was second in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic to Fort Larned.  In 2013 he came out on top of  the Awesome Again Stakes (G1), venturing into his Classic victory. Mucho Macho Man has earned over $5.6 million with a record of 25 starts, nine wins, five seconds and six thirds. Moreover, Mucho Macho Man’s offspring collectively earned over $19 million, and are notable for their speed and stamina, showcasing in various stakes races on dirt, turf and all-weather surfaces.
