No prohibited substances were detected

It seems like there was quite a legal battle between trainer Richard Baltas and the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) regarding the alleged race-day administration of substances to his horses. Despite Baltas losing his petition for a writ of mandate against the CHRB, the judge's ruling noted that while Baltas's horses had been administered substances not permitted on race day, no prohibited substances were detected in post-race samples.

The substance in question, "X-Treme Air Boost," was a herbal paste believed to contain higenamine and phenol. While these substances are not specifically classified by the Association of Racetrack Commissioners International uniform guidelines, Baltas maintained that they were not prohibited under CHRB Rule 1843.2 and were not administered as performance-enhancing drugs.

Baltas's suspension, which lasted for a year, ended after the previous year. Despite the legal ordeal, Baltas has resumed training, with notable successes in 2024, including training the winner of the GIII Monrovia S., Ag Bullet.

While Baltas acknowledges his mistake in administering the substance on race day, he seems resigned to the outcome and expressed gratitude for being able to resume his career. It appears he has no intention of pursuing further legal action about the case.
