Oaks Prep: Brad Cox Releases Talented Gazelle Pair

The Grade 3, $200,000 Gazelle at Aqueduct Racetrack on Saturday will feature Gin Gin and Barbratina, trained by Brad Cox.

The nine-furlong sophomore filly test, which awards 100-50-25-15-10 Kentucky Oaks qualification points to the first five finishers, is Race 8 on a packed 11-race bill headlined by the Grade 2, $750,000 Wood Memorial presented by Resorts World Casino in Race 10. Race 4 features the Grade 2, $300,000 Carter presented by NYRA Bets, Race 6 features the Grade 3, $175,000 Distaff, and Race 9 features the Listed $150,000 Bay Shore. Eastern posts begin at 11:30 a.m.

Gin Gin, a Kentucky homebred owned by Calumet Farm, has earned 41 points, 35 of which came at the Big A for her one-length win over muddy and sealed ground in the nine-furlong Busanda [20 points] in January and her third-place finish [15 points] in the one-turn mile Busher Invitational on March 2.

Gin Gin earned five points for finishing second in the one 1/16-mile Rags to Riches at Churchill Downs in October and one point for finishing sixth in the Grade 2 Golden Rod at Louisville in November.

The Hightail Bay is out of the Hard Spun mare Before You Know It, which won the Karakorum Electra and came second in the Grade 3 Top Flight Handicap at the Big A in 2015. Before You Know It's half-sister Instant Reflex produced November's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Hard to Justify.
