Rebounding from a disappointing performance in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Courtlandt Farms' Our Pretty Woman showcased her class by winning the $173,700 Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 15. After finishing 11th in the Kentucky Oaks, the daughter of Medaglia d'Oro demonstrated her potential with a three-quarters-of-a-length victory over graded stakes winner Intricate.
Trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, Our Pretty Woman had previously placed in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2), which secured her entry into the Kentucky Oaks. On a fast track, unlike the sloppy conditions of the Oaks, she performed admirably under jockey Luis Saez. Coming from just off the pace, she took command in the stretch, completing the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.07. A $900,000 purchase at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Our Pretty Woman paid $4.02 to win as the favourite, marking her third win in five starts and her first stakes victory.
In another impressive performance, D. J. Stable's Webslinger claimed victory in the $173,700 Chorleywood Overnight Stakes later that evening. Dropping down from grade 1 competition, the 4-year-old Constitution gelding showcased his stamina in his first three-turn turf contest. Trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Jose Ortiz, Webslinger rallied from behind fast early fractions to seize the lead in the final sixteenth of a mile.
Timed in 2:14.58 on firm ground, Webslinger defeated fellow graded stakes winners Sugoi and Bold Act, who finished second and third, respectively. Webslinger's win paid $4.98, confirming his ability to handle longer distances and demonstrating his class drop payoff.
These victories by Our Pretty Woman and Webslinger highlight their resilience and potential for future stakes success, reinforcing their status as noteworthy contenders in their respective divisions.
