Paramount Prince Triumphs in the 164th King's Plate at Toronto's Woodbine Racetrack

In a remarkable display, Paramount Prince, ridden by Patrick Husbands, led from start to finish to win the prestigious $1-million King's Plate on Sunday at Woodbine Racetrack.

The Plate Trial victor, Paramount Prince, entered the race with odds of 8/1 and impressively clinched the one 1/4-mile event in an unofficial time of 2:01.93 on Woodbine's Tapeta track.

This victory marks the third King's Plate title for trainer Mark Casse.

Elysian Field, a filly and Woodbine Oaks winner also trained by Casse, finished as the runner-up in the competitive 17-horse race, with Stanley House coming in third.

The upcoming OLG Canadian Triple Crown event is the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes. This 3/16-mile dirt race is set to take place at Fort Erie Racetrack on September 12.

The last horse to achieve the Canadian Triple Crown was Wando, bred and owned by the late Gus Schickedanz, who accomplished this feat in 2003.

In other racing news from Sunday, the 2022 Plate winner Moria, this year's even-money favorite, placed second in the Grade II $200,000 Dance Smartly Stakes. Trained by Kevin Attard, Moria finished a length behind Miss Dracarys, who won the one 1/16-mile race in 1:39.60 under the training of Neil Drysdale.
