Trained by Julie Walker and driven by Bert Renaud, Pemberton delivered a flawless performance from start to finish. Breaking out aggressively from the outside in a competitive field of six, the seven-year-old Wheeling N Dealin-Dayshift gelding took the lead and never looked back.
Setting a blistering pace as the frontrunner, Pemberton clocked impressive fractions of :27.1, :57.1, and 1:26.2 over the mile before crossing the finish line in a swift time of 1:53.4, securing victory by a length. Locatelli, steered by Sylvain Filion, claimed the runner-up position, with Patriarch Hanover, under Doug McNair's guidance, rounding off the top three.
Co-owned by Brenda and Christine Walker, Pemberton boasts a commendable track record, having amassed earnings of $525,179 and a stellar performance record of 15 wins, 5 seconds, and 6-thirds from 41 career starts.
As the favourite among punters, Pemberton justified the confidence placed in him, returning $5.50 for a winning ticket.
