Perez Achieves Top Jockey Position in Canada at Hastings

Amadeo Perez had no idea that his victory in two races last Sunday at Hastings Racecourse would make him the leading jockey in Canada.

Before the races, both Perez and Kazushi Kimura, the top rider at Woodbine, were tied with 50 wins each, which was the highest number in the country. However, the leaderboard now shows Perez with 52 wins and Kimura with 50.

It is important to note that Woodbine's thoroughbred racing spans 133 days from April to early December, whereas the Hastings meet only consists of 45 race days. To put this into perspective, Perez achieved his 51st and 52nd wins after participating in 130 races, marking the halfway point of the Hastings schedule. On the other hand, Kimura reached his 50 wins at Woodbine after competing in 218 races, while recovering from a concussion sustained in a spill on July 8th.

"I didn't know about being the leading rider in all of Canada," said Perez. "My focus is always on winning and to keep working hard. It's always a challenge."
