During the morning qualifiers on Tuesday, June 25 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Prohibition Legal and Twin B Archie, both multiple-stakes winners, took centre stage.
Prohibition Legal, who had a troubled start in the Roses Are Red Stakes eliminations over two weeks ago, made an impressive comeback. The five-year-old Big Jim-Catch A Wish mare, owned and bred by Millar Farms, took the lead after a :28.4 opening quarter and finished in 1:52.3 with driver James MacDonald. Winmebak, a four-year-old Grassroots champion trained by Nick Gallucci, followed behind in his second qualifier of the season.
Barstool Mountain, a maiden three-year-old pacing gelding owned by Millar Farms, also impressed by posting a 1:54 mile in his qualifying start. With a final quarter of :27.3, he finished three lengths ahead.
Former O'Brien Award winner Twin B Archie, a five-year-old gelding, trotted to a 1:56.4 win on Tuesday for trainer Scott McEneny. With MacDonald in the bike, Twin B Archie led the race and held off All Gas No Brakes by half a length. The Archangel-Affair Hall gelding, owned by McEneny and his partners from Martwest Racing Stable and Cantucky Farm Inc., is on the comeback trail after facing the gate only four times last year.
