Roundup of the Kentucky Oaks: Leslie's Rose has her last drill

Leslie's Rose, the winner of the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes, led the three contenders for the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks after they completed their final workouts on Thursday morning.

For the Kentucky Oaks on Friday morning, Tarifa, Thorpedo Anna, Gin Gin, Into Champagne, Ways and Means, and Manama Gold are scheduled to work beneath the Twin Spires.

Tarifa Gin Gin.  At 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Tarifa and Gin Gin galloped a distance of roughly 1.5 kilometres.

It is planned for both fillies to work on Friday at 7:30 a.m.

Into Champagne. Trainer Ian Wilkes had an easy mile-and-three-eighths gallop on Thursday morning for his third-place finisher in the Gulfstream Parks Oaks (G3), Into Champagne. Wilkes stated that he anticipates breezing her on Friday following her gallop.

Wilkes said that since there seemed to be a potential of rain later in the day, he would probably breeze her tomorrow.

Simply F Y I. The winning filly Simply F Y I ran a one and a half mile sprint on Thursday at 7:30.

For the Kentucky Oaks (G1), the Bill Mott trainee is anticipated to be among the favourites.

According to Mott, the lovely filly enjoys her training and feels content most of the time.

Winner of Ashland (G1), Leslie's Rose Leslie's Rose, trained by Todd Pletcher, completed a half-mile in :49.40 on her own while riding for jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.

Soon after entering the racetrack, Leslie's Rose set her own pace, clocking times of 13.20, 25.20, and 49.40 seconds. She covered five furlongs in 1:02.40 and the full distance in 1:16.20.

Having been on board Leslie's Rose for all four of her launches, Ortiz said that she did incredibly well.

Pletcher found the work satisfactory.

The four-time Oaks champion Pletcher expressed his extreme happiness with the result, saying that she cleared the ground quickly and sprinted away.

Strategies, Means, and Regulatory Risk. For trainer Chad Brown, Ways & Means and Regulatory Risk each ran a mile and a half.

Methods and Approaches Before the first morning harrow break, he galloped under Peter Roman and was set to start work at 7:30 on Friday morning.

Regulatory Risk is expected to work on Saturday at 7:30 with Jose Ortiz leading the way, after galloping at 7:30 with Gudiel Alvarez leading the way.

Tapit Jenallie. In preparation for the Oaks on Thursday morning, Tapit Jenallie breezed a half-mile. The homebred daughter of Tapit was piloted by jockey Manny Esquivel for trainer Eddie Milligan Jr.; Esquivel will be called upon to ride the horse in the Oaks.

The timing for Tapit Jenallie was 49.40 seconds, with portions of 12.80, 25 and 1:02.40 out and 1:16.20 at the end.

As he supported her as she had her cool-down bath, Milligan said,  She has matured and improved a little since he rode her the previous two times in Hot Springs. She is truly doing fantastic.

Anna Thorpedo. Before the Kentucky Oaks, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and Magdalena Racing's Thorpedo Anna is slated to have her last significant workout for trainer Kenny McPeek on Friday.

Thorpedo Anna galloped one and a half miles on Thursday.

Where's My Ring. For trainer Val Brinkerhoff, Where's My Ring walked a mile while riding an exercise rider, David Rodriguez.

Where's My Ring, the winner of the Gazelle Stakes (G3) at her most recent outing, is expected to work a half-mile on Friday morning with Rodriguez in the lead.

Also Eligibles. Under Jonathan Fabian Aguilar, Manama Gold galloped a distance of 1 3/8 miles for trainer Todd Pletcher.

The UAE Oaks (G3) champion, according to Pletcher, will work in the morning before deciding on her Oaks credentials.

Candied, Pletcher's other contender for the Oaks, walked a half-mile alongside Scalable, which was positioned in graded stakes.

Luis Saez, the jockey, was leading Candied as he worked outside of Scalable, achieving fractions of 12.60, 24.20, 36.20, and 47.60 seconds. He finished in 1:00 for the full race, 1:12.80 for the quarter, and 1:27.40 for the seventh and eighth.

Pletcher said it was excellent, a terrific, solid effort, and he hopes she gets in. She galloped out powerfully, switching leads on cue.
