Sunday Is Ralph Nicks’ Final Training

Ralph Nicks announced that he would be stepping down from his position after overseeing his final horse race at Gulfstream Park on Sunday.

"It's about time," Nicks chimed in. "I've been here for quite some time. Running a business can be challenging, especially when faced with the unfortunate reality of losing clients. A significant amount of time has been dedicated. Before I reach an advanced age and am no longer able, I desire to explore different destinations."

The 57-year-old native of Avery, Texas, has an impressive record with 722 victories. Notable among these triumphs is Caledonia Road, the winner of the 2017 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar, who also received the prestigious Eclipse Award as the champion 2-year-old filly. Another remarkable achievement is Aubby K, a multiple graded-stakes winner who emerged victorious in the 2013 Humana Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Nick is thrilled to embark on a journey.

"I plan to embark on a journey across the United States," stated Nicks, who is scheduled to participate in one event on Saturday and three events on Sunday at Gulfstream.

Nicks gained valuable experience working alongside his father, Morris Nicks, before honing his skills under the guidance of renowned Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. Cigar dominated the Mott stable for an impressive 16 consecutive races, emerging victorious in the prestigious 1995 Donn Handicap (G1) and the 1996 Gulfstream Park Handicap (G1) while also securing consecutive horse of the year honours.
