The 2024 season at Georgian Downs commenced on Sunday, June 2, featuring a thrilling 10-race card headlined by two $8,000 divisions of the Prospect Series for three-year-old colts and gelding trotters.
In leg #1B, Slayin Theday Away made a commanding start, seizing the lead in the first division. Driver Eddie Green expertly guided Slayin Theday Away to the front of the compact field, clocking a brisk first quarter in :29. The pace moderated as they approached the half-mile mark, with Slayin Theday Away maintaining his lead in 1:01. Sensing the challenge, Boyden (piloted by Paul Walker) made a move from third to engage the leader, and the pair remained neck-and-neck at three-quarters in 1:30. The intense battle persisted as they traded strides to the finish line, with Slayin Theday Away ultimately securing victory by a neck in a time of 1:58.4.
Slayin Theday Away, trained by Keelan Green, notched his second consecutive victory and fifth of the season in nine starts. The homebred son of Muscle Mass-Babeivegotyoubabe, owned by Celestey Hill, showcased his talent with a lifetime best effort, boosting his earnings to $30,794.
In the second and final division, driver Tyler Moore guided Wheelzablazin to victory. Starting from post four in the field of five, Wheelzablazin settled into fourth position as Lockdown Romeo led the way to the quarter pole in :30.2. The field maintained their positions through the half-mile mark in 1:03.2, with Wheelzablazin making a decisive move first-over to seize the lead from Lockdown Romeo at three-quarters in 1:31.4. Despite Lockdown Romeo's efforts to resist, Wheelzablazin surged ahead in the stretch, crossing the finish line 2-1/4 lengths in front in a time of 2:00.4.
Wheelzablazin, under the guidance of trainer Paul Cameron, has been on a hot streak, clinching victories in his last two outings and four of his last five. The gelded son of Wheeling N Dealin-Blazing Shot, owned by Arnolds Horse Shack, has accumulated earnings of $29,924 over his career.
Georgian Downs will continue its racing schedule on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays through Saturday, August 31.
