The four-win performance boosted both Reys

Harness racing driver Michel Rey and trainer Richard Rey stole the spotlight at The Loop on Saturday (Aug. 24), winning four out of the eight races on the day’s card. The father-son duo started strong, sweeping the first three races.

In the opener, Michel Rey guided Braxtons Boy (Whosurboy) to victory. The gelding kicked out of the pocket down the backstretch, overtaking One Last Bet (Dean Rey) to win in 2:01.4. Braxtons Boy, a four-year-old co-owned and co-bred by Richard and Janet Rey, continued the family's winning trend.

Reys Ur Glass (Whosurboy) delivered a maiden-breaking win for the Reys in the second race. Taking command near the halfway mark, the sophomore colt extended his lead to three lengths in the stretch, securing a 2:08.1 victory. Richard Rey trains and bred the colt, who made his debut this year.

The Reys secured a hat trick in race three with Is He Watching (He’s Watching), who led the field wire-to-wire, winning by a length and a half in 2:02.4. The filly is owned by Laverne Turnbull and showcased another strong effort for the Rey team.

The featured Open Pace saw Armycaptin Hanover (Captaintreacherous) complete the Rey grand slam. He surged to the front in the third quarter, powered past the leader into the final turn, and cruised to a dominant five-length win in 1:59.1. The eight-year-old gelding, owned by Turnbull, notched his 11th win of the year and his fifth victory in seven starts since joining Richard Rey’s stable in Manitoba.

The four-win performance boosted both Reys to the top of The Loop’s standings. Michel Rey now leads the drivers’ standings with 10 wins, surpassing Glenn Le Drew’s seven, while Richard Rey overtook Trevor Williams to become the leading trainer with 10 wins.
