Trainer Brad Cox informed Daily Racing Form on Tuesday that Timberlake will not be participating in the Kentucky Derby.
Cox mentioned that the connections of the Into Mischief colt are contemplating a potential reduction in distance following his fourth-place finish in the prestigious Grade 1 Arkansas Derby over the weekend.
Timberlake is owned by Siena Farm and Winstar Farm. He earned a place in the Kentucky Derby by accumulating 81 qualifying points, with victories in the Rebel (G2) and Champagne (G1). He secured the fifth spot in the standings.
He held the advantage for the majority of the Arkansas Derby but lost momentum and ended up finishing almost seven lengths behind the winner, Muth, in first. Steel and Mystik Dan were also placed ahead, as noted in the Equibase chart.
"He emerged from the situation in excellent condition, completely healthy, and will be transported back to Churchill Downs today," Cox informed DRF. "We believe it would be more beneficial for him to avoid attempting a mile and a quarter within the next four and a half weeks."
