U S Captain Retires from Racing to Begin Stud Duties in 2024

Woodmere Standardbreds is elated to announce the addition of U S Captain to its esteemed lineup of stallions.

A striking and impeccably structured offspring of the legendary Captaintreacherous, U S Captain, who commanded a price tag of $180,000 as a yearling, will now shift his focus to breeding duties. His lineage includes the illustrious American Jewel, a dual world champion and recipient of three divisional awards during her career.

U S Captain displayed his prowess on the racetrack by clocking a commendable 1:49 mark as a three-year-old, following impressive times of 1:51.2 at two and 1:48.1 at three. Competing in prestigious events such as the Meadowlands Pace, the Messenger, and the Progress Pace as a three-year-old, he faced formidable opponents like Captain Crunch, Bettors Wish, and Dancin Lou.

Exhibiting versatility in his performances, U S Captain secured victories on tracks of varying sizes, recording notable times of 1:51.3 on a half-mile track, 1:51.1 on a five-eighths track, and 1:49 on a mile track. Over the course of his career, which spanned more than 100 starts, he achieved 16 sub-1:50 mile times, accumulating 52 top-three finishes, 22 wins, and earnings totaling $391,640.

Hailing from a lineage boasting exceptional talent, including million-dollar earners like American Mercury and Luck Be Withyou, U S Captain shares the bloodline with the promising two-year-old stakes winner Odds On Platinum p,2,1:52.2s ($370,000) of 2023.

Bruce Wood of Woodmere Standardbreds commented,

"U S Captain epitomises the art of contemporary breeding. We are thrilled to present breeders in Atlantic Canada with a stallion that combines fashionable genetics with early speed and enduring performance".
