Ever since Chad Brown started his own career as a Thoroughbred trainer in 2007, the Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga has held significant importance for him. Whitebeam’s victory in the $500,000 race on Saturday marked Brown's ninth win overall and his eighth win in the past nine runnings, setting a new record.
Brown, reflecting on his time under Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, highlighted Diana as one of the prestigious races that stood out to him. Whitebeam, ridden by jockey Flavien Prat, joined a select group of horses to win the Diana two years in a row.
Taking an early lead in the race, Whitebeam controlled the pace comfortably throughout, securing a three-quarters length victory at the finish line. Trainer Brown praised the mare's performance and expressed gratitude for his team's dedication over the years.
Despite Whitebeam's previous lack of wins leading up to the Diana, Brown had confidence in her abilities and the strategy to take the lead. The victory marked a successful day for Brown, with multiple horses finishing in the top positions.
Looking ahead, Brown mentioned a possible participation in the Ballston Spa race and deliberated on Whitebeam's future in the Breeders’ Cup division. The decision of whether to stretch Whitebeam out or compete against males remains open, highlighting the versatility and potential of the talented mare.
