$2.5M Flightline Shares Highlight Keeneland's Inaugural Sale

A coveted stallion share in the esteemed Horse of the Year and leading sire Flightline was sold for $2.5 million to Jane Lyons' Summer Wind Equine during Keeneland's first championship sale at Del Mar. This sale showcased Flightline, who stands at Lane’s End Farm and is the sire of the upcoming weanlings of 2024. The event, held on Wednesday evening, attracted a diverse audience from around the globe, creating an electrifying atmosphere filled with competitive bidding.

Keeneland president and CEO Shannon Arvin expressed pride in the innovative approach of the sale, emphasising the blending of celebration and commerce amidst Breeders’ Cup week. Keeneland aims to redefine the sales experience, making it fun and engaging for all involved. Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy noted the positive feedback, highlighting the collaborative effort with Breeders’ Cup and Del Mar.

The Flightline share, consigned by Lane’s End, was secured by Steve Jackson on behalf of Lyons, a former co-owner of the champion. Jackson remarked on Flightline's exceptional progeny, describing them as athletic and impressive.

In total, the single-session auction garnered $4,325,000 from five sales, showcasing the market's enthusiasm. Other significant sales included Pandora's Gift at $850,000 and a share in the Grade 1 winner Cogburn for $475,000. The event clearly signified the growing excitement and potential in the thoroughbred breeding landscape.
