Displaying resilience and skill, Aladdin (Shadow Play), driven by Stéphane Brosseau, secured a hard-fought win in the Sunday feature pace at Hippodrome 3R (H3R) on October 27. Competing in the 10th race, a $10,000 feature for Quebec-owned pacers, Aladdin set the pace early, outpacing I Ama Rocket (Marie-Claude Auger) in a brisk first quarter of :28.2.
After reclaiming the lead from I Ama Rocket at the half in :57.3, Brosseau and Aladdin prepared for a fierce challenge from race favourite Light The Torch (Pascal Bérubé), who moved up first-over. The two horses engaged in a thrilling neck-and-neck battle, reaching the three-quarter mark in 1:26.4 and duelling through the final turn. In the stretch, Aladdin held strong to claim victory by a half-length in 1:55.4, while I Ama Rocket took third.
This win marked the fourth victory of the year for the five-year-old gelding, trained by Maxime Velaye for owner-breeder Guy Corbeil of Mirabel, Quebec. Aladdin paid $10.70 for the win.
In other highlights, four drivers—Pascal Bérubé, Antoine Desrochers, Jocelyn Gendron, and Stéphane Brosseau—notched driving doubles, while Guillaume Desrochers recorded a training double. The 2024 race meet concludes on Sunday, November 3, with Pascal Bérubé expected to secure his fifth consecutive driver’s title and Marc-André Simoneau leading the trainer standings. Post time is at noon.
