Amigo Volo triumphed in a hard-fought battle to claim victory in the Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, February 5.
Under the tutelage of trainer Meg Crone, the talented trotter secured the winner's share of the $36,000 purse, winning by a narrow margin.
Taking control of the race from post position five, driver Tyler Borth and Amigo Volo set a commanding pace right from the start, clocking an impressive opening quarter-mile time of :26.4. However, their lead was short-lived as Sylvain Filion, aboard Handsome Sebastian, made a daring move from the outside to regain control at the halfway point, reaching the half-mile mark in :55.4. Handsome Sebastian held onto the lead, with Amigo Volo dropping back to third after Chris Christoforou, driving Locatelli, made a strong push on the outside at the three-quarters mark, recording a time of 1:25.4. As the race entered the home stretch, the intensity heightened as Travis Cullen, piloting Southwind Oncore, surged into contention alongside the trio of frontrunners. In a thrilling sprint to the finish line, Amigo Volo dug deep and pulled ahead, securing the hard-fought victory by a neck in a time of 1:53.4. Southwind Oncore settled for second place, while Handsome Sebastian claimed the third spot.
