Ammo, a four-year-old harness racing pacer sired by Sweet Lou, showcased a commanding performance on December 9, securing a decisive victory in the $10,500 Open Handicap Pace at Rosecroft Raceway. Known for his strong finishes, Ammo deviated from his typical off-the-pace strategy by taking the lead early and never looking back.
Driver Jonathan Roberts wasted no time, guiding the 3-5 favourite aggressively from post nine. Ammo advanced three-wide around Business Director, overtaking Skyway Victor by the first quarter in :27.2. From there, the pacer set a relentless pace with middle fractions of :55 and 1:22, creating an insurmountable gap as the race progressed.
By the stretch, Ammo was in full control, crossing the line 6-1/4 lengths ahead of Walden Woods, who gained ground steadily to secure second place. Business Director, rallying from third-over cover, narrowly missed second but settled for third.
Trained by Michael Hall, who co-owns the 15-time winner alongside Macklin Creek LLC, Ammo delivered yet another impressive performance, paying $3.20 for the win.
Rosecroft Raceway's action continues on Wednesday, December 11, featuring a 13-race program. Highlights include a $10,500 Mares Open Handicap Pace and a $19,905.19 Jackpot Hi-5 carryover. Post time is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. EST.
