At the Fasig-Tipton sale, the Bolt d'Oro filly sells for $1.25 million

The 2024 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-year-olds in training sale finished on Tuesday with new or equal records in average and median, led by a $1.25 million filly by Bolt d'Oro. A seven-figure youngster led the annual sale, which takes place at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland, for the eighth year in a row.

When a filly by Bolt d'Oro (Hip 401), agent Wavertree Stables' consignment, was sold for $1.25 million to Winchell Thoroughbreds, she topped both the session and the sale. The bay filly is a half-sister to three winners from as many starts of the successful Arch mare Werewolf, including last term's Laurel Futurity winner Air Recruit (Air Force Blue), howling time (Not This Time), a stakes winner, and graded stakes-placed. Hip 401 won the under-tack show on Friday, sweeping an eighth in 10.0 seconds.

A colt by Maclean's Music (Hip 379), the session's best-seller, went to NAJD Stud for $650,000 off of agent Eddie Woods' consignment. The bay colt is a half-brother to three winners, including Grade 2-placed multiple stakes winner Big Switch (Mr. Big) and Graded stakes-placed Hollywood Hills (Hoorayforhollywood), who are both out of the unraced Malibu Moon mare Two-Faced Moon. Silver Max, Yes It's True, and champion Kiss a Native are among the Grade 1 winners in the immediate family. On Thursday, Hip 379 performed a flawless eighth in 10.1 seconds in the under-tack show.

The following completed the top five prices from the second session:

A filly by Practical Joke (Hip 450) out of Aunt Dorothy was consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent, and sold for $525,000 to Case Clay Thoroughbred Management. Hip 450, who came from Bell's the One and Dream Express's direct family, the Grade 1 winner, easily won eighth in 10.1 seconds on Friday in the under-tack show.

A colt by Curlin (Hip 429) out of America's Starlet sold from Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent, consigned for $500,000 to Donato Lanni, agent for Imagine. Hip 429 worked an eighth in 10.1 seconds at Friday's under-tack performance, out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner American Gal from the immediate family of Grade-Group 1 winners Seventh Street and Reynaldothewizard.

From the consignment of De Meric Sales, agent, a colt by Practical Joke (Hip 532) out of Cry Uncle sold for $475,000 to Muir Hut Stables. Hip 532, the first foal out of the winning Uncle Mo mare and the family of Grade 1 champion Stormello, easily won the under-tack event on Friday, clocking an eighth in 10.1 seconds.

During the two sessions and any outstanding post-sale transactions, 343 minors were exchanged for $32,766,500. The sale reached a new highwater mark of $95,529, up 3% from $92,788 the previous year and surpassing the previous record of $95,391 established in 2022. The median price of $50,000 was the same as the record in 2021 and 2023. The percentage of reserves not reached was 17%.
