Beloved Sire Uncle Mo Dies at 16 After Injury

The esteemed generational sire Uncle Mo has reportedly passed away at the age of 16 following a left foreleg injury, as shared by Mike Repole in a tweet and a post on the Coolmore America website. According to reports, he was euthanised at Ashford Stud after undergoing surgery the previous day, with the recovery process proving too challenging for him. In expressing his deep sorrow, Repole remarked on the profound bond he shared with Uncle Mo, emphasising that the stallion was more than just a champion; he was family. Repole referred to Uncle Mo as the patriarch of Repole Stable, noting that no other horse could leave such an indelible mark on his life.

Coolmore's Dermot Ryan echoed similar sentiments, stating that the team remained in shock over the loss. He acknowledged Uncle Mo's exceptional contributions both on the racetrack and in breeding, thanking Repole and the entire support staff who had cared for the beloved stallion throughout his life. Uncle Mo, bred by D. Michael Cavey DVM, was sold at auction before making his debut as a star horse trained by Todd Pletcher. Over his racing career, Uncle Mo amassed impressive achievements, including the Grade I Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a significant role in the breeding shed, producing numerous champions and record-setting earners. This legacy will undoubtedly be remembered by those who loved and supported him throughout his illustrious life.
