Big Box Hanover had previously failed to win at Plainridge Park in six attempts this year, but that changed on Thursday, July 18 when the seven-year-old gelding won the $27,397 Open Handicap trotting feature. Remember Titans led initially, but Malibu Kid regained the lead before Big Box Hanover made a late surge to win in 1:54.1. This victory marked Big Box Hanover's fourth win of the year, owned and trained by Larry Stalbaum.
Enola also had a successful day, becoming the winningest horse of the current Plainridge meet with her eighth win of the year, six of which were at Plainridge. Enola, trained by Joe Nelson, won the conditioned trot for six-year-olds and under in gate-to-wire fashion, holding off strong competition in a time of 1:55.1. Nick Graffam had a successful day with three wins, and live racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Sunday, July 21 with the $250,000 Spirit of Massachusetts Trot and $100,000 Clara Barton Distaff Pace.
