Brookdale Johnny Aims for Season Finale Victory

The curtain comes down on the 2024 racing season at Red Shores Summerside Raceway on Tuesday, Nov. 19, with an 11-dash program beginning at 6 p.m. Headlining the card is Brookdale Johnny, an accomplished pacer, who seeks to add one more top-class win to his impressive record in the $3,400 Race 10 feature.

Drawing post five, Brookdale Johnny will be driven by Paul Langille for trainer Phil Sizer and owners Doug Polley Jr. and Sr. The son of Rockin In Heaven has claimed 10 wins this season across Ontario and Prince Edward Island. Last week, he showcased his sharp finishing ability, surging from last to first under challenging track conditions.

The Competition

Brookdale Johnny faces a strong field, including American Risk (Corey MacPherson), who ships in from Truro Raceway and starts from the rail for trainer George Rennison. Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) lines up in post two for Paul Biggar, while Howmac Charmer (Darren Crowe) starts from post three for the Kyle Williams barn.

Morning-line favourite First Glance starts from post four with David Dowling piloting for trainer Jennifer Doyle, who is in contention for the season’s leading trainer title.

Race Preview

The Backstretch Beat tips Brookdale Johnny to come out on top, noting:

“Brookdale Johnny has a terrific finishing kick, as shown with his :29.1 closing effort last week on less-than-ideal conditions. The Sizer barn has been red hot, and Johnny’s top-class credentials make him the one to beat in the 2024 finale.”

Trainer and Driver Standings

Trainer Jennifer Doyle is attempting a dramatic late-season comeback in the competitive trainer’s race. She sits in sixth place with 13 wins, but has six starters on Tuesday’s card. Meanwhile, Phil Sizer and Kyle Williams are tied for the lead with 16 wins each.

The drivers' championship is firmly in David Dowling’s hands, with 62 wins on the season. Corey MacPherson holds second place with 43 victories, followed by Ken Murphy (31) and Paul Langille (29).

Additional Highlights

The night’s program also features:

- Race 1: Brock’s Fortune Retirement Pace

- Race 3: Red Shores Pace

- Race 5: Wendell Wallace Memorial
