The talented filly positioned herself in third place as she approached the first turn, following Bob McClure closely along the pylons through early fractions of :28.4, :59, and 1:27.3, all set by Little Papi, driven by Jody Jamieson. As they headed down the stretch, Cant See Me found an opening and unleashed a powerful kick in the final eighth of a mile, surging past three competitors to clinch the victory in 1:54, capped by a blistering last quarter of :25.3. Au Jus Hanover, driven by James MacDonald, managed to fend off Charlotte Station, piloted by Louis-Philippe Roy, to secure second place. Cant See Me was purchased for $80,000 at the Lexington Select sale by Hudson Standardbred Stable, and is trained by Shawn Steacy. She recently secured her second qualifying win last week with a time of 1:57.
The card also featured several other first-time winners among the rookie horses. Allstar Maniac, a daughter of All Bets Off, trained by MacDonald, achieved her first victory in just her second start with a time of 1:53.4 after finishing fifth in her debut Ontario Sires Stakes Gold on July 5. Ivy Lynn, sired by Green Manalishi S and driven by Sylvain Filion, earned her first win in her fourth attempt, finishing in 1:57 for trainer Jean Tourigny. P L Spencer, son of Resolve and piloted by Roy, redeemed himself after a break in his initial race, claiming victory in 1:57.2. Dee, a Bettors Delight offspring who had previously competed in two Gold events, secured a narrow win by a nose in 1:56. Cover Band, bred from Propulsion and driven by Scott Young, dominated race seven, winning by 13-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:57.1.
Racing is set to continue at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, July 25, starting at 7:10 p.m. EDT. The 10-race program will showcase the second leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes for two-year-old trotters, featuring two divisions for fillies and three for colts and geldings.
