In the evening Preferred Pace on Saturday, May 18, Twin B Tuffenuff was certain of redemption following his first start of the season at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, where he had tasted defeat.
Twin B Tuffenuff is trained by Ron Matheson for its Charlottetown owner, Pat Morris.
In the sixth race, Merigo Magic outran older competitors, winning in 1:55.3 when the three-year-old son of Tobago Cays circled the field. Trainer Melissa Rennie, together with owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron, and Ian Walker, had Adam Merner at the wheel. The colt is now aiming for Red Shores Summerside on May 26 for the P.E.I. Colt Stakes is the first event of the season. Along with Impeccable Shadow, Merner and Rennie won the third race in 1:55.
In addition, Keith Ford excelled as a trainer-driver, taking first place in both races with Justcallmedoc (1:59.4) and Moonwriter (1:57).
In the final race of the event, Hippyjohn triumphed at 17-1 odds in 1:56.4, benefiting trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault and owner Roderick Smith from Inverness, New South Wales.
