Sunday May 19 marked the start of Clinton Raceway's 2024 racing season. The 10-race schedule drew sizable crowds and gorgeous weather.
Rally enthusiasts, across 2,000 people from all across Southwestern Ontario, came together to commemorate the Huron County Oval's comeback, and they nearly raised $65,000 for the mutual windows. Fans saw Travis Henry kick off the 2024 racing season in grand fashion, leading the driving colony with three wins on the board. Todd Ratchford, Scott Wray, and J Harris also scored two victories each. In terms of training, Courtney Robson took the lead, winning two games with Lisas All In and Checkers with Grandpa.
In addition, the season-opening included a trackside fundraiser for Central Huron Secondary School, the local high school. With the help of sponsors of the race, BBQ, silent auction, bake sale, and 50/50, the event raised $6,000.
“We are so grateful to be able to host this annual fundraiser at the track,” stated state coordinator and guidance department member, Leigh Melady. “We want to thank all those who supported our efforts this year and in years past.”
Additionally, two on-track performances by Mitchell, Ontario's premier mounted drill team, the Cutting Edge Cowgirls, were given to the audience.
On Sunday, May 26, live racing will return with The Wingham Ironmen benefit and the yearly 50+ Day. On the Clinton Raceway website, fans who are at least 50 years old can sign up for a $12 race package that includes a $5 wager, program, and lunch.
