Dexter Dunn closed out Breeders Crown weekend in grand style at The Meadowlands, steering Twin B Joe Fresh to a 1:49 win in the $555,556 Mare Pace, his record sixth victory of the event. Dunn, who moved to the U.S. from New Zealand in 2018, broke the Breeders Crown record for most driving wins in a single year, surpassing David Miller’s five-win record from 2015.
Twin B Joe Fresh, harness racing’s top-ranked horse, dominated the race, finishing 1-3/4 lengths ahead of Kobes Gigi, nearly breaking the stakes record. Owned by Dunn, trainer Chris Ryder, Peter Trebotica, and Barry Spak, the mare continued her winning season with this 10th victory in 12 starts, bringing her season earnings to over $1.1 million. Ryder praised the mare’s resilience, noting her recovery from a minor setback last week.
The weekend was a personal milestone for Dunn, whose Breeders Crown win total rose to 21 since his debut in 2019. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed gratitude for the support and quality horses he’s had the privilege to drive. Dunn’s other Saturday wins included My Girl EJ, Mirage Hanover, and Winners Bet.
Twin B Joe Fresh, bred by Brittany Farms, now has 29 wins in 39 races and lifetime earnings of $2.6 million.
