Dilicious is the top contender in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes

The P.E.I. Colt Stakes, Canada's oldest Standardbred stakes event, is set to continue on Thursday, July 18 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor's Plate Week racing.

The two-year-old pacing colts will be taking to the track for the 12-dash card starting at 6 p.m. The card features two $18,250 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold divisions for rookie pacing colts in races three and nine.

In the first Gold division, Dilicious, trained and driven by Darryl MacLean of Winsloe, P.E.I., is the top contender. Other contenders include Tobins Storm and One Wicked Man.

The race nine Gold division sees Arthur Blue Chip colt Sergeant Crowley as the top contender, driven by Robert Laffin for trainer Sifroi Melanson and owner Ultimate Stable. Im Sir Scarlet and Income Approach are also top entries.

Additionally, there will be $9,125 Grassroots divisions for two-year-old colts in races two, four, five, seven and 10. The Derek Enman Memorial in race six features Risin Horizon as the morning line favourite.

Red Shores Summerside will race on Monday, July 22 at 6 p.m., hosting the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two- and three-year-old trotters and overnight races that were cancelled due to inclement weather on July 16.

The draw date for Thursday's races is July 18, with the box closing at 9 a.m. for overnights and 10 a.m. for stakes. All horses must declare for the races.
