Do Deuce earned his fourth Grade 1 title by winning the prestigious $3.1 million autumn Tenno Sho at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday, finishing 1 1/4 lengths ahead of his competitors. This triumph adds to his impressive record, including wins in the 2021 Futurity, the 2022 Tokyo Yushun, and the 2023 Arima Kinen. With this victory, the five-year-old gelding has become the seventh horse in Japan Racing Association history to secure Grade 1 wins over four consecutive years. Following two unsuccessful spring performances, Do Deuce now aims for the Japan Cup (G1) on November 24 and the Arima Kinen on December 22 before retiring.
Trainer Yasuo Tomomichi celebrated his 20th Grade 1 win, previously achieving success this year with Justin Milano in the Satsuki Sho. Veteran jockey Yutaka Take marked his seventh autumn Tenno Sho win, tying with record holder Takayoshi Yasuda, and this win also counts as his 82nd Grade 1 score.
Breaking smoothly from gate 7, Do Deuce settled toward the back of the pack before unleashing a powerful run in the homestretch, overtaking competitors and clinching victory with a final time of 1:57.3 over the 2,000-metre course. Last year’s Tokyo Yushun winner, Tastiera, finished second, while Ho O Biscuits completed the trifecta in third. Bred by Northern Farm and owned by Kieffers Company, Do Deuce is out of the mare Dust and Diamonds, by Vindication.
