Fraser Distaff Preferred Race Dominated by Western Summit

In the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred event held at Fraser Downs on Thursday (March 7) evening, Western Summit emerged victorious in each panel, securing her fourth consecutive win.

Under the guidance of Scott Knight, the Jim Marino trainee commenced the race from post two. Positioned on the outer side, Western Summit took the lead after the initial :27.2 panel. Subsequently, she continued to dominate the race, maintaining the lead through the following two panels timed at :58 and 1:26.2. Ultimately, Western Summit triumphed by a margin of 1-1/2 lengths, crossing the finish line in 1:55.2. The second position was secured by Salary ridden by Blaine Chappell, while Stonebridge Jade, with Allan Molloy as the jockey, clinched the third spot.

This accomplished eight-year-old mare, sired by Vertical Horizon and out of Kismet Killean, is jointly owned by Paul Sanders and Jim Marino. With this victory, Western Summit has now claimed four wins from five starts in the current year. Over the span of her career, she has participated in 135 races, achieving victory in 28 of them and accumulating earnings totalling $194,432. The bettors' choice at 2-1 odds, Western Summit returned a payout of $5.20 to her backers.
