GoFundMe Was Started for Rollins, the Injured Exercise Rider

On April 26 at Keeneland, Molly Rollins was hurt when her pony overturned during training.

It doesn't matter if you are harmed when working with horses; what matters is when and how badly.

On April 26 at Keeneland, Molly Rollins, associate news editor for BloodHorse and stable manager for John Ortiz Racing Stables, sustained injuries in a training mishap. As they were about to leave the racecourse, the 2-year-old filly she was riding suddenly flipped, resulting in the disaster. Rollins suffered from internal haemorrhage and a damaged pelvis, according to a GoFundMe campaign created on her behalf.

Rollins announced on Monday that she had had two operations and would be undergoing physical therapy in the near future.

“I love my racing family and this sport so much,” Rollins said. “It means the world to my family and I to receive everyone’s kindness and support through these challenging times.”

The 2-year-old filly trained the following day without any injuries.

At the age of 21, Rollins started riding racehorses in 2012. She has experience working as an exercise rider for Mark Casse Racing Stables and Herringswell Stables, as well as an assistant trainer for Luis Carvajal. Since November 2021, Rollins has served as a stable manager for John Ortiz Racing Stables.

Rollins worked as a Thoroughbred Daily News intern while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Journalism at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey. She was employed by BloodHorse as an assistant news editor in 2020 after graduating. Rollins writes the monthly Maiden Watch column for BH Daily, contributes feature stories to BloodHorse magazine, and covers races including the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup.

Sandra Washington, John Ortiz's assistant, created the GoFundMe campaign to help with Rollins' medical expenses.
