Lakers Bank, a three-time Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots winner, claimed victory in the conditioned co-feature at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, October 24. Driven by Jason Ryan, the three-year-old gelding started off in third, clocking a sharp :27 first quarter. As they approached the half in :56.4, Lakers Bank made his move, launching a first-over attack on leader Wilcat Rocky, setting up a fierce battle down the backstretch.
The two contenders were neck-and-neck through three-quarters in 1:25, but Lakers Bank took control at the final turn, gaining a length lead as they headed into the homestretch. With Wilcat Rocky fading, Lakers Bank held strong, driving home to win by a length and three-quarters in 1:54.2. Drinkin Buddy, driven by Daryl Thiessen, finished second, while Wilcat Rocky settled for third.
Trained by Tim Myers and owned by Val Spar Stables of West Hill, Lakers Bank has now secured six wins from 17 starts in his debut season, amassing $68,270 in earnings. His fastest mark of the season came at Grand River Raceway, where he clocked a time of 1:51.4 in one of his Grassroots victories.
