World-class harness racing drivers Louis-Philippe Roy and Daniel Dube will return to their home province of Quebec on Sunday, September 8, to compete in the prestigious $500,000 Quebec Championships at Hippodrome 3R. The highly anticipated 12-race card, which kicks off at noon, will showcase eight divisional championships for Quebec-bred pacers and trotters.
Among the featured events are the four Breeders Trophy Series finals for three-year-olds, each offering a $65,000 purse, and the four Future Stars Series finals for two-year-olds, each with a $55,000 purse. Additionally, there will be four $6,500 Invitational races, spotlighting three-year-old Quebec-bred pacers, trotters, pacing mares, and pacing horses. This will mark the richest day of horse racing in Quebec.
Louis-Philippe Roy, a three-time O’Brien Award winner, will be driving in 10 of the 12 races, including three finals where he will race horses that he bred and owns: two-year-old pacing filly Coeuratout De Lac, three-year-old pacing filly Ronda Du Lac, and three-year-old pacing gelding Olaf Du Lac. When asked what excites him most about returning to Quebec, Roy said, "Seeing people happy after all the hard work they’ve put into their horses and watching them succeed in the finals. Many people in Quebec are owners, breeders, and even trainers, so this is the culmination of years of effort."
Daniel Dube, a Trois-Rivieres native, is also set to compete. The New Jersey-based driver, who is closing in on his 10,000th career win and has amassed over $139 million in purse earnings, will race in seven of the 12 events, including four finals. Dube famously drove This Is The Plan to set the record for the fastest mile at 3R in 2019, clocking in at 1:49.1 during the Prix d’Ete.
Joining Roy and Dube in returning home is Simon Allard, who will have four drives on Super Sunday, two of which are in finals for his father, trainer/owner/breeder Michel Allard.
Highlighting the finals is Boomboom Tonight, a standout in the 10th race for three-year-old pacing colts. The gelding, driven by Pascal Berube and owned, trained, and bred by Elisabeth Pothier, has a shot at sweeping all three preliminary legs and the final.
The excitement of Super Sunday weekend begins on Friday, September 6, with a 10-race card starting at 4 p.m.
