Hot Shot Kid will be added to the Hall of Fame

Three new members will be inducted into the Canterbury Park Hall of Fame, including breeders Cheryl Sprick and Richard Bremer, as well as the Minnesota-bred Thoroughbred racehorse Hot Shot Kid. The induction ceremony will take place on July 12 at the Shakopee racetrack. These individuals join a prestigious group of over 50 individuals and horses who have made significant contributions to Minnesota horse racing.

Sprick and Bremer have been breeding and raising Thoroughbred racehorses at Steepwood Farm for more than three decades. They have been active participants in the Minnesota racing industry since 1989, producing several stakes winners and accumulating more than 100 wins at Canterbury. Some notable horses bred by Sprick and Bremer include Bet Your Boots, True West, Jose Patio, and Badge of Glory.

Hot Shot Kid, a Minnesota-bred racehorse, had a successful racing career from 2016 to 2023, winning a total of 17 races and earning over $700,000 in prize money. Trained by Hall of Famer Mac Robertson, Hot Shot Kid won numerous stakes races at Canterbury and was named horse of the meet in 2019. After retiring from racing, he began a second career as an event horse at Stargazer Farm in Lakeville.

The Canterbury Park Hall of Fame, established in 1995, recognises individuals and horses who have made significant contributions to the racing industry in Minnesota. The selection committee, comprised of representatives from local horsemen organisations, media, and Canterbury Park, chose the new inductees. The induction ceremony will take place during Hall of Fame Night this Saturday.
